How to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre

First thing to consider if you come to Barcelona: “How To get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre”.

It’s actually very simple compared to other cities. We only have one airport in town, “El Prat” and 2 terminals. Shuttle service from 1 terminal to the other is free of charge!

We have 4 means of transport for this trip:

• Taxi: Free Now/ Cabify
• Official shuttle: Aerobús
• Metro: L9 Sud
• Local mainline train: R2
• Conventional bus line: 46 or NitBus at night N16/17/18. (Which I don’t recommend)

Easiest way to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre: TAXI

Let’s get started with transport options. First option I will recommend you is to come by taxi.
If you want to come fast and easy, just grab a taxi. Prices are around 35€ and if you land between 1am and 5am, this will be your only choice! Trip from the airport to the city centre by taxi lasts 30 minutes approximately.

I will recommend you to download 2 Taxi apps: “Free Now” or “Cabify”. We don’t have UBER in Barcelona but they work just the same. I prefer the apps because the price is fixed and no surprises + the route is shown, so I’ll make sure they won’t scam me.

At the airport, you will see a sign for taxi. they are usually at the entrance and there’s a waiting line. If you want to pay with credit card, tell the driver in advance. Check with the driver the extra fees he may charge you for luggage or whatever! And always ask for a ticket in case you loose something.

Oh! And we have taxis for 4 people but there are bigger ones, though they may charge a bit more.

Other way to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre: METRO

In both terminals we have a metro station inside (L9). Airport tickets for 1 way are 4,90€ but you can watch my video “Getting around in Barcelona” before deciding what transport card to buy. Trips from the airport to the city centre by metro lasts around 1 hour.

• Monday to Thursday from 5am till midnight. (also Sunday)
• Fridays and public holidays 5am till 2am.
• Saturdays all night

You have the 1 day travel pass, 10,50€.

You have the Hola Barcelona Card for 2/3/4/5 days that gives you unlimited transport from 15€.

And the Barcelona Card that gives you unlimited transport + a ton of museums,attactions & activities from €43.

Take this bus to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre: AEROBUS

In both terminals we also have the official bus service called Aerobus running the 24/7. Tickets are 5,90€ and you don’t need to book, they come all the time. Trips from the airport to the city centre by Aerobus lasts around 40 minutes. Last stop: Plaça Catalunya, the heart of Barcelona and free WIFI.

Take the train to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre: TRAIN

There is a train service but it only runs from Terminal 2. Single tickets are 2,4€ but you can watch my video “Getting around in Barcelona” before deciding what to buy. Trips from the airport to the city centre by metro lasts around 1 hour.

This train departs every 30 minutes. If you arrive to Terminal 2 before 11pm this can be a good choice. It stops at Sants Estacio, Passeig de Gracia, or El Clot-Arago.

Just in case you are not coming to Barcelona by plane, main train & bus stations (Sants & Estació del Nord) are right in the city centre!

What you should do now, is to check where your hotel or Airbnb is located, so that you can choose the best choice on how to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre. Also ask your check in time!

Barcelona Luggage Storage

If you need to leave your luggage at the airport, there is this service in both terminals, T1 and T2 from € 12 each piece of luggage per day.

And there are tons of companies all around the city from 5€ per day per each piece of luggage.
